The US Dept. of Justice NSOPW App is the official national sex offender search app, funded through a grant from the Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking (“SMART”), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice. It provides users with free access to sex offender data nationwide, in order to increase public safety.

The app allows users to search for registered sex offenders that have residential, employment or school addresses within a close proximity of the mobile device, using a ¼ mile, ½ mile or 1 mile radius or by offender name. Searches can be conducted nationally and the initial search is performed based on the location of the mobile device, but users can also search from other locations by tapping the relevant locations on the map. If a registering jurisdiction does not allow searching by geographic coordinates, a zip code search will be used. The app also provides access to sex offender websites, which are outside of NSOPW’s control.
